Sam Bish

Sam is a wonderful young man who just turned 9 years old this past January. He is in the 3rd grade and he loves video games and superheroes. The Bish family resides in the Columbus, Ohio area. Sam has two younger sisters that keep him busy. The Bish family are a very sweet and loving family!

Sam’s story started the summer of 2009. Sam had been having some pain in his right knee most of the summer. As the pain increased his parents realized that something might be wrong and made an appointment for Sam to see an Orthopedist on 8/10/09. At this doctor’s appointment an X-ray was done of Sam's leg/knee and it showed that there was a mass that the doctor believed to be cancerous. Sam went into the hospital just a few days later for a series of tests. He received a cat scan, MRI, and also a full body scan. His family met with the pediatric oncologist the following day and Sam was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Osteosarcoma. Sam's cancer has metastasized to other areas in his body. The cancer is in his right femur and he also has multiple nodules in both of his lungs. Sam also has 1 additional spot on his left fibula and also 1 spot on his lower back/spine. The spot on his spine is in an inoperable area and he will have to receive radiation on this at some point. This is an aggressive type of cancer and it will be treated with aggressive forms of chemo followed up by surgery.

October 30th, 2009 Sam’s right leg was amputated above the knee on to take out the cancerous tumor. Samuel also had surgery on his left leg and some of his fibula bone was taken out as well. Sam went home to recover and will continue with chemo along with having upcoming surgeries on his lungs .

Update as of May, 2010. Sam is currently in the hospital. We went to visit him and took him a Chemo-Bear and some gifts for his sisters. Our heart was touched deeply when Sam woke up, the first thing he said when he saw us was “would you pray for me?” We did and we took a picture of him with his Chemo-Bear. We loved his smile :)

The Bish family is asking everyone to please lift up their little boy Samuel Gordon Bish in prayer. Please be prayer warriors along with their family and friends, as Sam goes through this difficult journey in his young life.
